The Bane of My Existence

We all have something that is one of the things we cannot do and is the bane of our existence. Well, that one thing is Math for me.

Math is the one subject that I cannot stand, nor do I understand. If you ask me to count, add or subtract, I'm okay with that...not too hard for me to do.

Multiplication and Division....those get harder for me. Fractions? FORGET IT. Algebra? SCREW THAT....I do NOT understand why numbers and letters matter and how they became relevant in our lives.

Now, I know math is used everyday in our lives and we don't know about it. Do I care? That would be a HELL NO. I cannot even fathom using math to go about my day. I still count on my fingers and have to ask how to measure things with cooking because I simply do NOT get math.

I am an English/Creative Writing Fiction major. Math does not apply to what I am doing. Unless, I become a huge best-seller and have to add up my fortune...then I will hire someone to do my math for me!

Basically, Math is the bane of my existence.....end of story!

Biggest Panic of the Day

We live in a society today where technology has taken over our lives. Everything we do has to do with electronics in some way.

I have everything set up on my phone and synced to my iPad. Yes, I have an iPhone and I love it....until last night.

My phone froze and I couldn't turn it off, couldn't make calls or receive them, couldn't get or send text messages, etc. I was stuck. I had tried everything to get it to work. I even screamed and cursed trying to get the SIM card out to see if that reset it....no luck.

So I let it drain the battery down to nothing. Finally....it turned on a reset back to normal. Phew!!! I was so relieved. If it hadn't done that, I would have basically had a $700 paper weight. I have insurance on my phone, but my email, contacts, photos, bank account and all things necessary are tied into that phone.

I have now learned my lesson. I am going to start backing up my  phone and writing things down to make sure I don't lose everything.

That was my panic of the day....let's just pray it doesn't happen again!

Most Proud Moment

Everyone has a moment in their life they are the most proud of. My moment would have to be my baptism. I took a leap out of my comfort zone and and got baptized for my faith in God.

I attend a very large, well-known church. And I waited for the senior pastor to be baptizing church members before I made my choice.

With baptisms in my church, they are broadcast on national TV due to the popularity of my church. I prayed before I went down that I wouldn't fall into the pool or slip, or drown. Just a precaution for me. LOL.....Luckily none of that happened. I came out just fine and very proud of myself.

There were some friends from my life group and among the congregation that knew me, but there was no one who sat with me and waited for me to get done. However, a very sweet friend from my group came up when she saw me up there and greeted me when I was done. That made me feel special.

So that ladies and gents, was my proudest moment. I wouldn't change that decision for anything.

Life Lessons

Sorry everyone! I have had a few rough and busy days and haven't made the time to post.

I did learn a very valuable life lesson this weekend though. For those of you who do not know, I am a Christian. In fact, that may be something I mentioned earlier, if not, now you know.

I met up with a former friend over the weekend and learned that some doors that God closes are better off to stay closed.

We have people that are put in our lives to be a lesson. This former friend was that lesson. I tried my damnedest to seek out a friendship again with this person because I felt like it was right....wrong.

God had only placed him in my life for a season and for a reason....to learn a lesson. That door was closed and and I made the mistake of opening that closed door and letting in a lot of pain.

So, folks...here's the lesson I learned....when God shuts a door in your life, don't try to open it again. It's closed for a reason and let it be. I dead bolted that door back and chained it shut.

This person was harmful to my well being and that was the reason why I was not supposed to have him in my life anymore. However, I wanted the closure I so desperately sought for months. Well, I got it. Though, not in the way I wanted. But, now I know it's time to move on.

Piercings and Tattoos

Do I have any piercings or tattoos? Why, yes I do! I have one tattoo on my left shoulder blade:

This was halloween....I don't normally dress this way! LOL

And I have my tongue pierced.

yep, that's me with purple hair last year...

Both my parents flipped out about. The tattoo not so much because I am Daddy's Girl and my dad really didn't mind all that much.

But, the day I came home with the tongue ring, that was WWIII. I remember the piercing didn't hurt at all...quick and painless. The swelling for the week after made me wanna punch someone in the throat. I was on a diet of baby food, slim fast, and mash potatoes. If I ever have to take it out, that's the end of it. I will NEVER pierce it again.

I am getting my ears re-pierced soon because they closed up. And I am planning on more tattoos, however my budget doesn't allow for the one I want next. It's going to be a half sleeve on my upper right arm. But then again, I had other plans with other cheaper tattoos.

Let's just see what my budget allows next....

Old Photo from My Younger Years

This is me when I was about 3 years old. I was in the middle of reading my dad "ghost stories". I had a big mouth then and still have one now! LOL

I honestly miss my care-free childhood days. Things were so much easier back then. I remember being 17 hanging out with some of my college age co-workers, wishing I could be older. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have wished to grow up so quickly. Because....this adulting shit is for the birds....

Favorite Book(s) and Favorite Author(s)

Image result for acheron by sherrilyn kenyon

Well this is not a hard one for me. Since I am an aspiring writer, I have to have favorite authors whom have made my writing come alive.

My favorite author is Sherrilyn Kenyon. I have her entire Dark Hunter book series. She is a phenomenal author and I love her stories. Kresley Cole is my second favorite author. I have everyone of her Immortals After Dark series.

But, my favorite book is Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I love the book so much I have the "Under The Protection of Acheron" magnet on my car.

He is the 11,000 year old Atlantean God of Final Fate. He's bad-ass in the book. Its about 3 inches thick and a lot of reading. However, if you leave me along long enough I can read it all in a day.

I have a lot of fave authors that have come out with great series. C.C. Hunter's Shadow Falls series was amazing and I read the whole series in a week. L.J. Smith, the creator of Vampire Diaries, wrote the Secret Circle series, and I read that in four days.

So, moral of the post is that I can read a LOT if you leave me a long enough. Also, Sherrilyn Kenyon is the goddess of writing.

10 Favorite Foods

So it's no secret...I love food. I think everyone does in their own way. Here's a list of my top 10 favorite foods:

1. Sushi....hands down my ultimate fave

2. Anything Italian

3. Mexican, especially shrimp quesadillas!

4. Pizza (could be linked to Italian, but who cares)

5. Shrimp, lobster and crab...Red Lobster is a frequent thing.

6. French dip subs from Arby's....oh so good.

7. Mushroom & Swiss burgers from Hardee's

8. McDonald's Sausage burritos

9. BACON!!!

10. Salads...especially with a decent ranch dressing.

I'm not picky when it comes to food except for one thing...brussel sprouts. They are disgusting balls of death...gross. I gag at the thought. There is no hope for making those things taste good at all. I don't care what you mask them with...I will hate them.

3 Personality Traits I Am Proud Of

We all have quirks and things about ourselves we do not like or things that we love.

I would have to say my three traits I am proud of are my sense of humor, outgoing nature, and kind heart.

All three seem to get me into trouble in a lot of ways, but I wouldn't change them for anything. There are very few kind-heated people in this world anymore and we need to keep those of us who still have hearts that aren't made of stone.

My sense of humor gets me through life and through most days. I love to make people laugh and that brings me a lot of joy. And of course being outgoing is what gets me the opportunity to get so many friends.

I wouldn't change myself for anyone. I have in my past and that lead to a lot of heartache and pain. So it's me against the world now. Like me as I am or watch me leave.

My Guilty Pleasure(s)

Man, this is a tough one. I would have to say my guilty pleasure would have to be sushi, anime, and Vampire Diaries! HaHa!

Whenever I get a chance, I get sushi and I relish in eating it. It is by far my favorite food.

Anime is a subject I can talk about all day. Someone mentions the word "anime" and I butt into the conversation!

Image result for animeImage result for vampire diariesVampire Diaries I can watch all day every day. Sadly, the final season is starting tonight and I am so bummed. But I hope it goes out with a bang and is better than the series Finale of True Blood....that was an awful experience to watch....

Could I add music to that list too? Why, yes I can! I have to have music when I study, when I am writing, when I'm bored, when I'm driving....etc, etc. Actually, it's playing right now! My Trapalicious play list is playing in the background while I write. Music gets me through anything.

This is a little bit of my guilty pleasures....

My Earliest Childhood Memory

I have lots of childhood memories, but I have to see the earliest memory for me would be all the times my dad I played "Rainbow Brite" in the woods around my house.

For those of you who don't know Rainbow Brite, it was an 80s cartoon that I was hooked on as a child. My dad always played with my over active imagination and I love every minute of it. Most of my childhood was on video tape.

I recall a home video where I was telling a "ghost story" in my bedroom with the shades drawn and I tried to make it scary, but alas, I was only 3 so the story didn't turn out so horrifying. My mind is a little darker now though!

My childhood was filled with happy memories because I have the best dad ever. I am a Daddy's Girl to the core and I have the tattoo on my left shoulder blade to prove it.

The Meaning Behind My Blog Name

Well as you can already tell...I am a writer. Not a successful one yet, but I'm a writer nonetheless. I got the idea for my blog and my website during a graphic design class I had to take for my former major at Liberty University.

We had to come up with a business name to create a letterhead, envelope, business card, and logo. I was very proud of my name, so it stuck. I am hoping to get this blog off the ground and have more people take a look at it and put my name out there.

So, I hope you keep following and see what comes up next!

Birth of Shadows

Image result for Birth of shadows

So here's the synopsis of my story I am attempting to write for my class that will ultimately be a novel:

Synopsis: Dominique is an ordinary teenager...or so she thinks. On her eighteenth birthday, she starts to change into an immortal being. She finds out who her real parents are, what her heritage means and how her existence can change the world or destroy it. Razihel, her guardian, must keep her alive at all costs. But, there are people out there who know everything and are trying to end her and wants to take her powers for themselves. With the help of Razihel, Dominique must fight with all that she is taught to keep herself alive long enough to destroy who ever is trying to destroy her.

Sound pretty cool, or what?

Introduction

Well here is an introduction on my blog. I am trying to get back into the habit of writing again since, A) I am a Creative Writing major, and B) I need to get into the habit of writing again! LOL. This is a place where I will post my synopsis of stories and ideas on what I have done so far. I hope that everyone who reads will be able to give me feedback and critique professionally and not down play or demean my work. Enjoy!
